. The docs suggest that assets are the preferred approach, but so many of the examples use ops. Shall I ask this question in the support channel?

Hi Steve - yes, we recommend using assets for the majority of use cases. Best practice is to only use

ops

when you want to do some action like sending a slack message where returning a value isn't the focus. Take a look at this doc https://docs.dagster.io/guides/dagster/how-assets-relate-to-ops-and-graphs
