Hi support 🙂 We already have a homemade Kubernetes Dagster deployment. What would be the benefits for us to move to your Cloud and pay for a hybrid deployment?

Not support, but branch deployments are chefkiss

Haha never seen that emoji. Is there a Sales team channel 😉? Branch deployments looks cool but I’m not sure they are worth it for us. We have a fully working local env running in k8s. If they are more benefits maybe that could be interesting

Hey Chris, other than features like branch deployments a huge benefit that we handle all upgrades and maintenance of system components (web app, daemons) without you having to do anything. Cloud ensures backwards compat so you just get improvements without having to do anything.
We also maintain the metadata db and web app for you so performance improvements and db maintenance just happens.

Hey Chris, I head up sales at Elementl, and would be happy to have a conversation about why teams switch to cloud. Feel free to dm me!

That’s very interesting. Does that mean that all the component versions are decoupled from whatever Dagster version I’m using? Like do you upgrade the Dagster version of cloud instance as they are published? How do you ensure that nothing will break?
Thanks Shaun, at this stage I’m only curious but will contact you if we decide to migrate. It’s a conversation I need to have with my colleagues.

Chris we have extensive testing to test that, and our event log––which powers the web app––was designed with this sort of forward compatibility in mind. But yes in general the versioning is decoupled, so you can keep using whatever framework version you are using and Dagster Cloud upgrades just happen automatically.
And lastly, in the case where a mistake is made and there is a breakage, then that’s our problem.
